Paloceras has been named a finalist in the 33rd SILMO d'Or, the award the optical trade treats as its closest equivalent to a Palme d'Or. Pebble RX is one of five frames shortlisted in the Sunglasses / Eyewear Designer category.
The SILMO d'Or is the principal design award of the international optics industry, presented annually at SILMO Paris. Finalists are selected by a jury of designers, opticians and trade press who assess the entries in person at the fair. Most of the categories are dominated by the licensing houses that make frames for fashion labels, but the designer category is the exception, judged on the frame alone.
Pebble RX is the round shape that started it all. The Pebble collection took its name from water-smoothed stones and its manner from sculpture: acetate blocks of unusual thickness, carved into inflated volumes that sit on the face like something found on a beach and polished for a decade. The frames are cut from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and built with the brand's DualLayer construction, which laminates two individual sheets so that colour runs through the frame in bands. A gold-plated wirecore, five-barrel hinges and gold-tone engraving finish the job. Every pair is polished by hand.
Pebble was the collection on which Paloceras was founded and remains its most recognised. It has since grown to include the SX (square), VX (aviator) and DX (diamond) shapes and more than twenty colourways, and has travelled from a handful of leading opticians in Europe to more than 150 stockists worldwide.
