Caption: We are excited to announce a new collaboration with Jiyeong Kim, a product designer with tender fingertips and extra bold ideas.
Jiyeong Kim gets ideas out of boredom. After working as an accessory and shoe designer for a Japanese fashion company for seven years, she packed her bags for Switzerland to embrace tranquility. .
“The monotonous and boring life in Switzerland allowed me to focus on myself. I wanted to create something poetic and beautiful.”
Lucky for the rest of us, the fruits of her imagination have since been displayed in collections of several luxury brands. Currently, she works for the high-end Italian outerwear brand Duvetica.
Now, Paloceras is joining forces with Jiyeong.
A shared aim is to reimagine eyewear through a collaborative design process and create a groundbreaking new product that will transport you to a world of pure imagination, a limited sunglasses collection that challenges the ordinary restraints of materials or shapes.
As a warm up exercise, Jiyeong and Paloceras baked a tray of bun glasses – both sweet and savoury. They were delicious.
The collaboration with Jiyeong feels like getting tickled in the brain. It’s incredible how she can stand at the precise crossroad of the wildest, unpredictable ideas that are also feasible. But what does Jiyeong think?
“I’m very excited for the opportunity for blending the boundaries between digital and material – it means we can play freely. In this collaboration, we want to see how far we can bend the concept of sunglasses without losing the preciousness that comes from carefully picked materials”, Jiyeong says.
What makes you excited about this collaboration with Paloceras?
“Mika and Alexis are such characters, and I just love them. It is a gratifying experience to ideate and create new things with them. We must always find surprises and happiness even in ordinary everyday life. For me, working with them is that kind of experience. Also, as an accessories designer, I am interested in pushing the boundaries of the fast-changing design market through experimentation in 3D. We will soon live in an era with more 3D sunglasses for avatars than actual sunglasses.”
What would you like to get out of this collaboration?
“I hope this leads people to discover new things in the digital fashion market. The three of use are designers specializing in craftsmanship. We look forward to creating beautiful things by meeting the most traditional and the most futuristic.”
We are just getting started, but what are your best guesses regarding the outcomes? What can people out there expect from this collaboration?
“I hope this project evokes a lot of emotions in people and brings back their own specific memories.”
The collaboration is just getting started, and we can’t wait to share next updates with you soon. Stay tuned.
