Every design process holds a hidden archive: the near-misses, the almosts, the not-quites. For most brands, these imperfect iterations are quietly discarded, buried beneath the surface of the polished final product. But at Paloceras, we saw an opportunity in the work-in-progress pile, a chance to reframe the narrative of imperfection, experimentation, and creative evolution.
Morphosis is our experimental art series, built around eyewear prototypes from the product development process. In this series, we invite artists and creators to explore how a product can evolve past its original function and mutate into something unexpected.
Morphosis 001: Bug Beauty Parlour - Sara Blosseville for PALOCERAS
As the first experiment in our Morphosis series, we invited artist Sara Blosseville to take on the challenge of working with our Misty Yellow prototypes as raw material. Her response: Bug Beauty Parlour, a collection of four miniature sculptures inspired by 2000s pop aesthetics and toy culture.

The series is a playful take on upcycling, consisting of jewellery-like emblems of girlhood that look like clusters of lucky charms. Each of them evokes a different cosmetic accessory themed with a bug: there is a butterfly mirror, an ant powder compact, a spider perfume bottle, and millipede curlers.

“The series has a girly, crafty, pop-like aesthetic, inspired by 2000s pop culture references like Polly Pocket toys and gadgets from Totally Spies TV show. I got inspired by the glossy, delicious-like texture of the glasses.” - Sara Blosseville
Disjointed and bent acetate from Paloceras eyewear is brought together with second-hand material such as toy parts, dried plants, pearls, bee’s wax, nail art products, buttons, trinkets, and lucky charms.
A loose insect theme is there to highlight the idea of rebirth and to bring a playful take on the miniature scale. The result is an uncanny blend of nostalgia and invention, where discarded prototypes become architectural cores of miniature dream-objects.

In a Bug’s Home
To capture the spirit of the collection, we brought the pieces into their imagined habitat: the forest. Set against a white backdrop between moss and shadow, the works appear as a witchy clash between post-natural and organic, hyper-femme and crawly. Here, the insect motifs come full circle – rebirth not only in concept, but in setting.
These photographs offer a glimpse into an alternate world where discarded eyewear escapes the drawer and is liberated into fantasy.
